Simple 7 Step Gua Sha Facial Massage
SHOW YOUR SKIN SOME LOVE WITH THIS SIMPLE DAILY GUA SHA ROUTINE
Stress can affect the skin in a number of ways and the skin can actually be a helpful indicator for when things are out of balance. Adding in a simple daily Gua Sha practice into your regular skincare routine has the benefit of not only treating your skin to support healthy cells and lymphatic drainage it’s also a really soothing and calming practice, especially when combined with a roller blend across your wrists.
Amy from Face of Nature will guide you through a short and sweet Gua Sha massage sequence that you can easily add in to your existing routine to show your skin some love and give it a healthy glow.
Elevated Session
As part of our Elevated Sessions, Amy is adding another dimension to a gua sha facial massage by using one of the Eve & Keel rollers across your wrists before you start. She choose to use the Joy roller blend because it also contains rose quartz and connects with the heart space and inner beauty.
Step one
Step two
Apply your favourite oil to the face, chest and décolleté. I like to use 'Celestial Boho Glow' as it contains a potent infusion of gold and skin tonic pearl which helps to calm inflammation which is great for skin that is showing signs of stress. This is my favourite product that I recommend to my clients.
Step three
Using the Rose Quartz Restorer (Gua Sha) - start the massage at the jawline and work down to the neck and shoulders. Tilt the tool at a 15 degree angle with a light pressure. This movement is great for supporting lymphatic drainage. Repeat all movements 6 times.
Step five
Using the inside of the restorer, sweep the tool across the cheeks towards the hair line and repeat 6 times. You may see some colour (pink) in the skin but this is ok. The Gua Sha tool is great for boosting blood circulation.
Step six
Moving to the forehead, take the tool and place it above the brow, again at a 15 degree angle and glide to lift the brow moving toward the hairline.
Step seven
To ensure the removal of toxins, drain out from the jaw line, down the next and repeat 6 times on either side.
Repeat these movements on the other side of the face - 6 times for each.
To close
Finally to complete this ritual, place the rose quartz gua sha over the heart chakra and take 3 deep breaths, in through the nose and sighing the breath away. Deep breathing is a wonderful way of supporting the nervous system which is particularly important in times of stress.
Tip
For a soothing and cooling massage place your tools in a cup of cold water before you start the massage. This feels wonderful in the morning and can help to reduce puffiness.
THE ORIGINS OF GUA SHA
It is important to note that Gua Sha is a form of therapy that sits within the framework of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and has been used for hundreds of years. Gua Sha is used to address imbalances when used in conjunction with techniques such as facial mapping. Benefits include - improving circulation ( also known as qi), along with supporting lymphatic drainage.
